Hollow Sidewalks Kicks off West Coast Tour with The Year of the Field Mouse Album Release Party at Holocene

Year of the Field Mouse (High School Records, 2017) is a sonic departure for Hollow Sidewalks, a band that incorporates psychedelia, post-punk and garage rock as well as shoegaze-inspired Verve-esque soundscapes. High School Records will host a record release party at Holocene in Portland, Oregon to kick off Hollow Sidewalks’ West Coast tour.

Year of the Field Mouse marks an ongoing journey for Nora Murphy Hughes. She has done what many Portlanders are doing—she’s cut back the booze and subbed harder drugs for more weed, with good results. The 60s inspired, sunny psych rock, laced with post punk riffs, is a testament to this. “Volcano,” their upcoming video release, is named after Hughes’ vaporizer. Their sophomore album signals departure from the darker, heavier Ain’t No Way (2014). Of the transition, Hughes says “It’s definitely a brighter, happier record than the last one. Overall there’s a more optimistic tone.”
